Veli protocol

A tunnel that looks like just a browser from the outside

Veli doesn't try to look like “nothing”. It looks like something a filter can't block: an ordinary browser that opened an ordinary website. Inside is modern, proven encryption, not a homemade one.

Getting around blocks

A path is closed? Veli finds another

Blocking comes in different forms: a way of connecting gets closed, or a server address. Veli deals with it on its own — you just press Connect.

  • Another path in a couple of secondsIf the usual path is closed on your network, Veli switches to a backup one by itself.
  • Backup addresses and neighboursA server address got blocked — the server has others, and there is a neighbour in the same country. No need to change your key.
  • Remembers your networkNext time Veli connects straight away by the path that worked here — no wasted attempts.

Comparison

How Veli beats the popular protocols

Hiding a VPN from your ISP isn't unique to Veli. But Veli also keeps the connection alive: it doesn't freeze, a download doesn't push your ping up, and it finds a way around by itself when a route is closed.

Your ISP sees an ordinary website, not a VPN

From the outside the connection looks like a browser on a website, not a tunnel.

The connection doesn't freeze

Filters choke long-lived connections: the VPN is on, but sites won't load. Veli renews the connection in advance and revives a stalled one by itself.

yes
Finds a way around by itself

If one way to connect or a server address gets blocked, Veli switches to another and remembers what works on this network.

yes
Ping stays low under load

Games and calls don't lag while a film or an update downloads.

yes
Switching networks without drops

Calls and downloads carry on when your phone moves from Wi-Fi to mobile data.

Protection updates itself

If a filter learns to spot Veli, we change the disguise on our servers and the app picks it up without reinstalling.

Traffic rhythm gives nothing away

Each connection has its own packet sizes and pauses, like a real website.

yes
Speed with almost no loss

The encryption is light, and the disguise adds only a few percent to the traffic.

Where it helps

On any network where VPNs usually get cut

Home internet

The ISP sees ordinary websites, not a tunnel. Video and calls do not stall after a couple of minutes.

Mobile network

Switching from Wi-Fi to LTE does not drop the connection — the tunnel survives it on its own.

Public Wi-Fi

In cafés, hotels and airports that block VPNs, the connection looks like a normal website and gets through.

Games and streams

No extra latency and a steady flow: the disguise costs almost no speed.

Game mode

Premium for gaming: a shorter road to the match

In game mode Veli shows which node has the shorter road to the match server, gets small game packets through even with packet loss, and never drops the connection mid-round.

Common questions about the protocol

Do I need to configure anything?

No. A Veli key is added with one link from your account or a QR code, then you press Connect.

Will it be slower than without a VPN?

Not noticeably. The encryption is lightweight, and the disguise adds a few percent of traffic.

What if the ISP learns to detect Veli?

We change the disguise on the server and the app picks it up on the next connection. Nothing to reinstall.
